Essential Question: What factors determine carrying capacity?

NGSSS: SC.912.L.17.8

Daily Doable Objective: At the end of this class, I should be able to
-identify limiting factors and other population dynamics.
-explain how limiting factors affect population density.

Bell Ringer: Look at the diagram. Use it to identify the elements that would limit the carrying capacity in the drawing.

Vocabulary: carrying capacity limiting factor, density-dependent limiting factor, density-independent limiting factor

Home Learning: Study for the upcoming exam on Chapter 5.

Students constructed a Cornell notes page for today's lesson. Be sure to place the correct information in your table of contents! The bell ringer goes in the center section of the Cornell notes page. Begin taking notes on the next available page.

Home learning 6 was collected and reviewed. This should be placed in your notebook with today's notes.

We reviewed how limiting factors affect population density via the power point from chapter 5, section 2. You can read the information in your text. The power point presentation is also included below in movie form. Should you prefer to see the actual powerpoint, go to My Big Campus and view the presentation there under the dates September 29/30. 2014.

We then completed the handouts (notes), which will also be placed in the science notebook. You can find the handouts below.

These are the handouts to accompany the powerpoint. However, be sure to take notes on the powerpoint, being sure to include all vocabulary mentioned above. ALso, include all the density-dependent and density-independent limiting factors in your notes.

Finally, be sure to include the three quality questions (with highlighted answers) and your summary for these notes.

Notebooks were collected to be graded. They will be returned next class.
